Fear of embarrassing yourself in public
Fear of embarrassment can quite literally stop you in your tracks, preventing you from enjoying outings to the park, movies, public transport and makes building a career extremely difficult.
Fear is a physiological response to a psychological process that takes place within two tiny almond shaped clusters of neurons deep in our brain known as the Amygdala. When a threat is perceived on our safety, no matter whether it is actual or imagined, a signal is sent directly to the Amygdala, completely bypassing any conscious or rational processing; electrical impulses are then sent to our adrenal glands which begin to secrete adrenaline into our body. This process results in the familiar feelings of fear, anxiety, stress, tension and worry.
The whole process happens in milli seconds, and has been called the flight or fright response.
This kind of response is entirely a learnt process, one that took place when we were very young. Due to either a heightened emotional experience or a series of duller emotional experiences in our early years our mind learns that being singled out or standing out in public for any reason means that we will feel terrible. As such whenever there is the remote chance of this occurring our mind sets off the flight or fight response in an attempt to ready us to either run or fight. This then leads to the all to familiar feelings of anxiety and fear.
How can I help?
Because fear is a learnt response, this means we can easily re-learn a new response, what makes this process of re-learning easy is the undeniable fact that the taking on of this knowledge will definitely improve your life. At the Social Anxiety Clinic I combine the tools of NLP, Hypnosis and Belief Change Patterns to make this re-learning a quick and effective process, putting you back in control of your mind and emotions rapidly.
