Chest Palpitations

Any Chest palpitations experienced should be seen to by a licensed Medical Practitioner.  This page refers specifically to and relates only to anxiety triggered and related increased heart rate.

The beating of our heart is something that we normally are not consciously aware of, unless we focus our attention on it.  Even if you stop reading now and try to feel the beating of your heart, without touching your chest, just by thinking about it, it is quite a challenge.

So when we become stressed and anxious, our heart rate increases, this increase leads to us becoming acutely aware of it beating away, only we aren’t running around or exerting physical exercise, so it shouldn’t be doing that.  This circulation of rational thought leads to increased feelings of anxiety, which cause our heart palpitations to appear to become even worse.

However, in such a heightened emotional experience, our focus of attention, being on how fast our heart is beating and the associated pain that goes with it actually causes it to appear worse than it is.  Have you ever had the experience of being told some bad news, and it was horrible, the end of the world, only to get 3 or 4 months down the track to look back and realise that it really wasn’t that bad after all.  Well, in the moment your focus on it created the problem into something more than it was, just as is happening with the pounding in your chest.

There are many ways to overcome chest palpitations, breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, medication and diet.

How Can We Help?

Here at the Social Anxiety Clinic we help people overcome and regain control of anxiety, and the way they perceive anxiety provoking situations.  Using the tools of Neuro Linguistic Programming, Hypnosis and Belief Change Techniques our clients experience significant relief in relatively short time frames when compared to other natural options available such as Meditation, breathing techniques, even CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), and psychotherapy.

Due to chest palpitations (within this context) being related to anxiety, and anxiety being under the control of our sub conscious mind, our approach is ideally suited to helping you gain relief, as we seek to help you change the way your sub conscious mind perceives threats around you.  By changing this we actually deal directly with the cause of the chest palpitations, reducing its severity for good.
